Baby Blankets

When many people need to buy a baby gift, they automatically think of purchasing a baby blanket. However, it doesn't need to be boring - you can find great styles and color schemes for baby blankets, making them a cool baby gift that parents and baby will love. Don't just buy a pink blanket for a baby girl gift, or stick to pale blue for a baby boy gift. Be imaginative and make your baby gift unique.

You can pick from a number of different materials for baby blankets: chenille, cotton, flannel, or cashmere. Fabrics like cashmere and chenille will be the softest, but also more expensive than a cotton blanket.

Personalized Baby Blankets

These baby blankets are more of a keepsake than a practical item. Although they can be used everyday, they are often put away as a keepsake for when the child is older. A cashmere or other soft material makes for an extremely soft and comfortable baby blanket, and you can customize it however you wish. Have a religious saying, the baby's name or birth weight stitched onto the blanket in any color.

Retro Baby Blankets

Retro baby blankets are increasingly popular, as more and more women who were born in the 70's and 80's are having children. These funky baby gifts have bright colors, vintage color schemes like chocolate brown and blue or orange and green, and large sized letters and graphics. You can find retro themes like cherries or cowboys, and give any new baby a hip gift from the past.

Receiving Blankets

Parents use a number of receiving blankets each day, and will need a lot to mop up spills and keep baby warm. They are thinner than regular baby blankets, but are made of cotton and are very breathable. They are very inexpensive and can be purchased in packages of two or more at most baby stores and department stores.

Baby Quilts

Baby quilts can often be a bit more expensive than baby blankets, but many are handcrafted and take much more time and effort to produce than a regular blanket. There are many styles and colors to choose from, and you can even get quilts custom made with any pattern you wish.

If you can quilt, making a baby comforter is a nice way to show you care. You could use various types of fabrics, including old bits of other family members' clothing, piece from a baptism gown, or the first outfit the baby ever wore. Give the baby quilt as a baby shower gift, or present it to the parents once the child is born.
